Manurewa Marae: Branded van raises new questions | Q+A 2024
A branded van, used by Te Pāti Māori candidate Takutai Kemp last year, has raised fresh questions amid concerns over allegations relating to Manurewa Marae.
The late-model, 12-seater van was used by Kemp in her bid for the Tāmaki Makaurau seat last year. The vehicle was wrapped in the candidate's branding and featured prominently in Kemp's marketing campaign as a mobile billboard.
The now-MP appeared with the van in a Q+A story just before the election. Subsequent registration checks of the vehicle show that it is owned by the Manurewa Marae Trust Board. Kemp was the chief executive of the marae before the election.
That may be a problem for the marae as it is a registered charity. Charities are restricted in what political activities they can engage in.
Q+A sought responses from Manurewa Marae and the Tāmaki Makaurau MP.
The current chief executive of the marae, Hilda Peters, said she had been advised by legal counsel not to talk to the media. Te Pāti Māori MP Takutai Kemp didn’t respond to several requests for comment.

Why does the Government NEVER want to address the ROOT CAUSE of the issues. The ROOT CAUSE is the Poverty, the injustice, the pain and the mamae, which is generational. Tamariki are STILL suffering the effects of the injustices their Tipuna suffered 160 years ago. The theft of land, the punishment of their parents and grandparents simply for being maori. Give these whanau their land back! Allow them to live on their land, and potentially gain wealth from that land. Right now we have generational trauma caused by past injustices, of which the leads to generational trauma, in which CLEARLY, the effects are being seen now. Address and deal with the root cause, and stop reacting to the symptoms.

Look at that devastating, unforgiven incident (baby) that was taken by a Muslim just recently .So all cultures need to be looked at ..l have many, many pakeha friends and they can tell some horrifying stories of child abuse too . Sad our country got a whole generation believing they are victims of colonial oppression or they are responsible for something 180yrs ago. This beautiful country is being ruined by a minority groups desire to force race into the issue. The absolute abuse of statistical data to suit agendas. Eg how can a person who is 5% Maori who identified as Maori be a statistical data point to analysis of health disparity. Absolutely ridiculous Like saying Bad DNA if being Maori makes you sick Can't fix that. 90% of those identified as Maori are at best 12.5% Explain how that provides "reliable" data to make policy or even statements regarding health and race
